Description

The Llano Estacado Winery is in Lubbock, Texas, in what seems like a relatively arid region for grape growing. However, founder Bob Reed was determined to show the region could support vineyards and produce fine wines. The winery’s name comes from the Llano Estacado, a large mesa covering portions of Texas and New Mexico.

We started modestly, funded by a passionate group of investors. Among them was a Texas Tech horticulturist, a man convinced West Texas could produce quality wine grapes.

It wasn’t easy persuading local farmers to invest in vineyards, but after we built our original winemaking facility outside Lubbock in 1976, vineyards began to dot the Texas High Plains.
