Description

Wayne Overton may or may not have been a dancer from Milwaukee. It is known that he was, for a time, a Texas farmer. This was after he and his wife Gay managed The Tavern and before they built the Draught House. To build the Draught House, a home was demolished and a cellar dug for beer. A hand built bar, tables, and chairs were added to the Tudor/Bavarian structure. Exposed cedar beams and wainscoting finished out the rustic “Texas meets the Old Country” pub. Wayne placed eighteen beer towers on the bar top and opened the doors on June 30th, 1969. And for 25 years the Overtons ran what was likely the best place in Texas to drink draught beer.        Dr. Glenda Smith bought the building in 1995 and opened a dental practice on the second floor after Wayne died. Gay Overton, fond of her memories, held the Draught House name so the pub was was rechristened Draught Horse under new ownership. A 7bbl brewing system was added and the number of beer taps was increased to 74. Josh Wilson, formerly at the now closed Bitter End Brewery took over brewing operations. In 1999, ownership changed again and the Draught Horse changed back to the Draught House.
