Diversion Brewing Co

What started on two separate kitchen stoves quickly transitioned to hand built garage “systems” and then into a business all in about 6 years. Dutch Blokzyl and Dan Bennett have been crafting beers together since 2008. Dan and Dutch attended many tasting events, serving their beer for free to test the product beyond friends and family. In 2012, there had been so many requests to buy beer from “DB BREWING” that a decision was made around a campfire between the Bennett and Blokzyl couples to open a brewery. To solidify this decision, in early 2015 Dan & Dutch entered their IPA into a home brew contest at The Farmhouse Brewery in Owego, NY and took home first prize. The two brewed the winning beer with owner Marty Mattrazzo and got to see first hand, how the entire process works on a bigger scale. Back in Chemung, after the barn location was acquired, they soon realized not only that their beers were hand crafted, good quality products, but they took a lot of pride in their “built not bought” craftmanship of the establishment to which the Diversion experience is today. Almost everything in the tasting room has been refurbished, recycled, or even up-cycled and built by not only Dutch & Dan, but by friends and family as well. During the planning process a new name for the brewery was needed as “DB Brewing” was too close to another brewery’s name in Virginia. Sitting on what is now the brewery’s patio, drinking our own crafted brews, relaxing, and removing ourselves from everyday life, we came up with Diversion Brewing Co. A place where you can come with family and friends, make life long friends, and take a diversion on the road to life. After roughly 2 years of planning, building, and brewing we opened our doors officially on July 23rd, 2016 with 6 beers on tap.
