A lifelong fascination with the smells and flavors of plants led to a book about root beer, which led to a book about homebrew. This naturally led to dropping out of college to attend the American Brewing Guild and move across the country, all with the dream of opening a brewery in his craft-beer neglected home state of West Virginia. After a decade of working at breweries across the country, that dream was realized in the small art community of Berkeley Springs, located at the base of the Cacapon mountain range.
The springs along the Cacapon have long been sought for their healing powers, reflected in the translation of the native Shawnee name meaning ‘magic water.’ The first European settlers valued these springs so much, they established the nation’s first spa around them. We proudly carry on this tradition of recreation and refreshment– but we’re a little upstream of the bathwater.
It turns out the magic in the water that cured your great-great-great-great-great grandfather’s gout also makes really, really good beer. While we at CMBC (and the TTB and FDA) can’t attest to the healing magic of this water after it’s fermented, we highly recommend it for the amusement of your flavor buds.
