Prohibition came to Augusta on May 1, 1916, however, and the prosperous home of Belle of Georgia beer eased toward an uncertain fate. The company changed its name to Augusta Ice & Beverage and replaced its quality brew with nonalcoholic “near beer” in hopes of staying solvent. By March 6, 1921, the company announced its bankruptcy. The Augusta Brewing Company buildings were demolished in 1964.
The Current Augusta Brewing Company & Beer Garden is a small microbrewery nestled in the hills of Augusta Wine County of Missouri. Steve Neukomm owns the Augusta Brewing Company & Beer Garden. In 1999 Steve purchased the assets of Heartland Brewing Company that began production of New Harvest Beers in 1997. Soon after the purchase, in June of 2000, Steve Neukomm purchased in Augusta the property that is now the home of the Beer Garden.
