How We Got Started

We took one look at this building on our property and said, “This would make an awesome winery!” Wouldn’t you agree?

Making the Winery

First James Reid helped us knock a doorway in the Calaboose! This was quite a site and not the least bit comfortable. But it made an opening to install our double doors into. And then, we put a new roof on the old building. And then, we had the front deck built. And then, Gary Galloway created our driveway!

The Side Deck

We needed more room. John Cook and his team to the rescue! This would later become the brewery, then our winter music venue “The Lounge”,

The Patio

Then one winter day, we were sitting and thinking. Hey! Let’s have a patio built right here! It’ll be cool and our customers will love it! Then the mason took all our money.

Our Vineyards

This part is really fun. We planted our first vines in 2005. And that vineyard is in front of the Calaboose. A few years later, we started planting rows on the other side of Leatherwood Mountain. We are up to about 3 acres now. Hybrids and Labrusca. We also buy Catawba from Joel Franks in town.

Winemaking

Winemaking starts with Judy. She prunes all our vines during the winter. The countless decisions she makes are a very important part of winemaking. We cold stabilize outdoors on our patio. It’s a two-year cycle that we just love!
