Above Ground Winery Claimed

A 400-year farming tradition that began during the Virginia settlement and blossomed out of the Mississippi Delta has come full-circle to return to the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills with the arrival of Above Ground Winery, the first and only winery in the Town of Purcellville. Loudoun County native Matt Barbagallo operates the small vineyard with his wife Mary Beth.

The small crop of grapevines survived early adversity with weather and wildlife to produce the simple, pleasing wines in production today. The distinctive selection of wines feature local fruit blends produced in Virginia’s first urban winery. Located in the heart of Purcellville’s Historic District, the Above Ground Winery Tasting Room blends wine education and entertainment in a comfortable, welcoming and relaxed environment.
