Fir Hill Ranch

In 1985 the first wine, a 1984 Chenin Blanc, was bottled under the name Fir Hill Ranch. The property, which was originally purchased to plant kiwis in 1972, was adjacent to the property owned by Laryl’s parents where he and his brother were raised.The road to the property is private and did not even have a name until the Smith family approached the City of St. Helena and asked our road to be named Fir Hill Drive because the road seemed, at that time, to head straight into the big fir hill at the end of the road. Fir Hill Ranch was the natural name.
