Jim HeadshotJim McMahon

Co-founder, Owner, Winemaker

Jim was raised in Sonoma and attended college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Jim began his career in the wine industry at Kenwood Vineyards & Winery under the legendary Mike Lee and moved up the ranks to Assistant Winemaker. After almost a decade at Kenwood, Jim made the move over the hill to the Napa Valley. He started as Assistant Winemaker and was eventually named Winemaker at Luna Vineyards followed by General Manager and Winemaker at William Harrison Vineyards & Winery. Jim is currently on the winemaking team for Coppercane producing the Belle Glos and Meiomi Wines.

In 2002, Jim met the love of his life, Courtney, whom he wed. In this union, Jim also met his business partner, Tom Keith, Courtney’s father. They quickly realized they shared a passion for wine in Tom’s cellar, and Athair was born.

Jim’s approach to making wine begins with quality fruit and solid winemaking skills. These fundamentals are critical to creating a good wine. However, to Jim, combining them with passion and pouring his heart and soul into the process is how a good wine becomes superb.

Tom Keith

Co-Founder, Owner

In 1977 Tom discovered the Threshold of Heaven: Sonoma Valley, California. Over the next thirty years, while raising his three children, he honed his skills as an amateur winemaker in his backyard.

After 34 years of owning and operating an international Men’s Apparel business, Tom retired and followed his dream into the wine industry.

Tom assists with sales for Athair. When he is not working Tom can be found on the golf course with his wife, Jamie, playing with his seven grandchildren, or walking his dog, Maggie.
