Description

I am a native Texan and former retired Fort Worth fireman and serial entrepreneur. After retiring from Fort Worth life in 2012, I simply wanted to bring something new to Brownwood but create a space on an historic site. I looked around Brownwood, my newly adopted home and saw opportunity staring me in the face at nearly every turn. We settled on the 1888 structure originally built by Robert Hurlbut, who created a significant presence in this gateway to the west community at the turn of the 19th century, via a substantial hardware and mercantile store. We set about an historic rehabilitation of the property registered with National Park Services & Texas Historical Commision upon its completion. Two years later we created a Brewery and Eatery inspired by Theodore Roosevelt – Teddy’s Brewhaus. Why Teddy? The answer is simple, his deliberate embrace of the strenuous life, iconic character, and can-do attitude inspire me. Not having a background in brewing did not sway me from a willingness to learn how to create good craft beer thanks to Wes Kearney, our business partner and brewer. All I ultimately desired to create was a special place for people to gather and have great food, great libations, and great fellowship.
