Built on an old family farm that was purchased in 1962, Folklore Brewing & Meadery became the first “packaging brewery” in Dothan since the Prohibition era. Jeremy Pate and his family started brewing beer as a pastime, but the concept of doing it for a living quickly became their dream. Folklore’s beers were in development long before the dream became a reality. The brewmaster, Jeremy Pate, has been home-brewing and consulting microbreweries since the early 2000s.
With its obscure location, the brewery feels much like a speakeasy in the back woods of South Alabama, creating a vibe that’s been delightfully described as “having a beer in a buddy’s backyard.” Campfires during the cooler months and games like cornhole, life size Jenga, and non-traditional board games keep patrons entertained instead of TVs.
