Way back in 2010, a teenager with a weird last name was brewing beer in a backyard shed with his Dad and brother, sharing these beers with his friends. One of these friends’ parents owned a small winery called JM Cellars – and in 2012 he was offered the opportunity to work as an intern.
Little did anyone know Dru would stay on the JM team for years, eventually becoming the Cellar Master before leaving to get a Bachelor’s in Viticulture and Enology. He then become an Assistant Winemaker for another winery in E. WA, worked a wine harvest in Australia, flew home early due to a global pandemic, and ended up right back at JM Cellars as a harvest intern, yet again. As Dru’s life and career evolved, his passion for brewing beer remained a constant.
Having Dru back on the team for harvest and not wanting to see him leave again inspired JM owner & winemaker, John Bigelow, to make him an offer he could not refuse – to take his enduring hobby and pilot a small brewery right inside the walls of JM Cellars. Hops and Seed was born!
