The brewery itself was first thought of one day in 2012. Tommy, an avid home-brewer by this time started to brand his home-brew’s as Dragon Run Brewing. That year for Christmas his sister’s, Lindsay and Meredith, gave him a pint glass set that was branded Dragon Run Brewing, King and Queen, VA, EST: 2018, picking the year 2018, because they thought that would be a realistic goal.

After a few years, while vacationing in the mountains of Virginia, Lindsay approached Tommy and asked if he was still thinking of opening the brewery and that she thought they should give it a go. After deciding on the Middle Peninsula as their location, they started to contact property owners. They originally chose the historic Prestley Park as the location for the brewery, but after rising cost of renovations and delays they looked for a new location.

While looking for a new location for the production brewery, they found the Shacklefords location and thought it was the perfect first step as a tasting room and eventual Beer Lab.
