Our Story

Owners Mari and Will Kemper (check out their video) have brought quality craft beers to their customers across America, Mexico and Turkey since 1984 and are glad to bring guests their exceptional beer in inspiring, friendly, and lively environments both in Portland, OR and Burlington, WA. Here’s an historic news video recorded on their VCR in 1984 with the opening of their first brewery Thomas Kemper Brewery. Chuckanut has won both Small Brewpub/Brewer 2009 and Small Brewing Company/Brewer 2011 at the national Great American Beer Fest (GABF), the largest craft beer competition in the world. Chuckanut distributes it’s beer throughout Washington State and Oregon! The South Nut (in Skagit Valley in Burlington) production facility includes a Tap Room welcoming all ages and encourages you to bring food or enjoy some from our visiting food trucks and restaurant neighbors. Chuckanut Beer Hall in Portland (known as P. Nut) is passionate about offering the best of Chuckanut’s awesome beers, wines and sodas as well as snacks. All ages are welcome in both P. Nut and South Nut and it’s covered outdoor spaces
