Description

Our Story

We are a brewery and restaurant located in an early 20th century townhouse, in the heart of Baltimore’s historic Mt. Vernon district. Since opening our doors in 1996, we have become one of Baltimore’s most beloved destinations for well-crafted beers and outstanding cuisine in a unique and relaxing atmosphere. Whether you prefer a hidden corner in the cavernous basement, a seat in the window overlooking bustling Charles Street, or a table in the beautiful dining rooms, we welcome you to relax and enjoy yourself.
History of 1106 North Charles Street
1906: Built as a private residence for W.G. Bowdoin a Senior Partner at Alex Brown and Sons of Baltimore, reported to be the first fireproof residence south of New York. The building was designed by Wyatt and Nolting, and built by George Blake.
1930: The residence was sold to local design firm J.G. Valiant & Co who maintained the interior of the residence and added a four-story addition to the rear of the building, including a freight elevator, loading dock and a large basement. This space is now used by The Brewer’s Art for fermentation, grain storage, milling, and office space.
1960’s: Bay College took over the use of the building as classrooms and administrative offices.
1970’s: Antioch College used the space as a satellite campus into the 80’s.
1988: D’Aleo and Associates purchased the building and returned to using it as an architectural and design office space.
