Description

How did Third Degree Brewery come to be you ask? Well one day, after countless hours of market research and 16 oz curls we, like many other craft beer enthusiasts, thought we should give this brewing thing a try. We like to make things and we like to drink things so it just seemed natural. It all began many years ago with the purchase of a $29 extract kit, a 6-gallon pot, kitchen stove and bucket with an airlock to ferment. Yes, I know what you are thinking, that’s a pretty high-end setup right out of the gate and as you can imagine with this professional rig, we were indeed able to make our first beer. Little did we know that while this first beer was a bit forgettable, it was the beginning of a hobby which would quickly turn into a passion. After realizing the kitchen stove was not ideal, we quickly we moved to a 20-gallon kettle, propane burner, hoist, and a mesh bag. Brewing in a bag was fun and gave us better results than the extract but as we toured more and more breweries it was clear no one brewed with a bag. Always wanting to improve our craft we agreed it was time for our next evolution and our first three vessel system was born. We built our own three kettle all-grain propane Herms system ourselves and we never looked back. Brewing combined all of the things we loved. Drinking, tinkering, shiny things, drinking and of course sharing our very own craft beer with family and friends.
